- Is anyone aware of a GOOD news reader that runs over winsock?
-
- I'm using trumpet 1.0 rev A and, for the money, I can't complain. But it has
- it's limitations (missing news groups, etc).
-
- If the trumpet news reader is still the best, what's the latest release and
- where do I get it?
-
- Thanks for reading this. Steve.

-
- Mosaic can be downloaded from ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu. Mosaic 2.0a3&4 (32 bit) will
- not work yet with the MS VxD Beta (MS says there working on it). But, 2.0a2
- (16 bit) works fine.
-
- The MS VxD TCP/IP-32 Beta is available to everyone and can be downloaded from
- ftp.microsoft.com /pub/peropsys/wfw/tcpip/vxdbeta/mtcpb2.exe. Give it a try,
- I've had great luck with it.

- The current beta of Trumpet News Reader does allow marking a single article
- (or a range of highlighted articles as read or unread). It also has some very
- minimal subject searching capability.
-
- Kill file support and more non-mouse-based (i.e. keyboard) commands would be

- Subject: Winsock frailties
-
- When Trumpet Winsock works, it works great. When something goes wrong, such
- as a network read error or almost any error condition, it is usually the start
- of a gruesome system crash.
-
- What's to blame for this poor exception handling? I've seen it on half a
- dozen different setups. Is it Windows? Trumpet Winsock? The Winsock
- protocol? Badly written applications? Gnomes? Bad Karma?
